Mystery Bird ........ What is it??

So far, its an American Snow Sparrow, a Snow Bunting, an albino House Sparrow, an albinistic/leucistic Finch and a White Canary escaped from captivity!!!

Red Squirells with white tails? Yes, this is known to occur with some before the moult at this time of year, as with these near Araglin in the west of Waterford. Others seen in the Nire Valley had ordinary red bushy tails.

Are the Wasps bothering you? Get a jam jar. Put some jam into it. Half fill it with water - with a drop of beer if you have it. Shake it about. Put some grease-proof paper on top as a lid and secure it with an elastic band. Poke a hole in the lid with a pencil. Rub some jam about the hole and put it on the kitchen window cill (or anywhere else). Job done!!

The whale season has started. 12-14 Fin Whales were seen off Ram Head on the 2nd. July and on the 14th, the body of an immature Minke Whale was washed ashore at Tramore, a probable victim of fishing gear.

New Irish Species

It is now confirmed by Stephen McCormack that a beetle photographed by Michael Guinan in Waterford City recently is the first Irish record of the Swollen-thighed Flower Beetle, Oedemera nobilis.
